IMAP/SASL-IR support in Archiveopteryx

SASL is a general authentication subsystem used by Archiveopteryx for IMAP, POP and SMTP/Submit.

Because IMAP was designed before SASL (in fact, SASL is a generalization of IMAP's AUTHENTICATE command), IMAP's SASL support lacks some features. One of them is clean support for authentication exchanges where the client speaks first. SASL-IR adds this feature to IMAP.

Most IMAP servers support SASL-IR, including Archiveopteryx. We expect most mobile email readers to support it, since it is part of the LEMONADE group of extensions.

The SASL-IR RFC was co-written by Arnt Gulbrandsen of Oryx.
